I’m Eli (or Elijah) Rockhold, I am a portrait photographer based currently in Des Moines, Iowa, but I’ll travel anywhere at the drop of a hat. My growing up in many corners of the world sparked a passion for appreciating the hidden beauty of places and becoming hyper-observant of my surroundings. As a child, photos were the only way to capture and hold onto those moments. This need to capture places grew into a passion for taking photos of people and places. I focus on high contrast, intensely shadowed, vibrant ways to capture realities of people.
I see photography as a medium to capture a specific moment in time; I want you and I to tell a story of that day, that year, this moment in your life. I am a photographer, and I am also a storyteller. I have always been compelled by the stories of others, and as a photographer, it is my job to capture a particular moment in the context of a greater narrative. That is my art.
My photography style is not about the poses or outfits you choose. Photos are about how you want them to act in the future. My goal is for you to look back and remember a time, a story, a snapshot of an important moment in your life.
I believe the more fun we have on shoots, the better the end results will be. I dislike the standard, manufactured, photos with the same poses and looks.
Originality is not only better for photos: it is integral.
